Assistant Professor Kim McKelvey
I am an interdisciplinary scientist specializing in nanoelectrochemistry. After completing a Bachelor and Masters in Computational Modelling through the Mathematics and Zoology Departments at the University of Otago, I worked in the computer games industry for NaturalMotion designing artificial intelligence and physical simulation solutions for 3D character animation in games such as GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3. I completed my PhD at the University of Warwick through the MOAC doctoral training centre and worked in the Chemistry and Life Sciences Departments. During my PhD I developed electrochemical scanning probe microscopy techniques for imaging the chemistry of complex systems at the nanoscale. My vision is to understanding how nano-structure influences energy conversion and storage technologies such as sensors, batteries, solar cells, and fuel cells.
